This website has been designed to be optimally viewed using Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 or Mozilla Firefox. If you are experiencing problems, you may want to visit the Microsoft website to download Internet Explorer or visit the Mozilla website to download Firefox, both of these web browsers are free.
Style Themes
The layout, font-style, and colors (among other things) are controlled by Cascading Style Sheets (CSS). CSS allows the appearance of the web page to change while keeping the content the same. For example, the XHTML code which provides the text for this page can be viewed without CSS styling.
Style themes can be switched by clicking on any of links on the left of the design notes page. The large and extra large text style sheet options may not be as visually appealing to most; the intention was to provide basic accessibility for those with impaired vision. Note: Be sure to click Refresh (or Reload) after switching style themes to ensure the page has correctly adjusted to the new settings.
JavaScript
Nearly all web browsers today have JavaScript enabled by default. While it's not a requirement to have JavaScript enabled to view this web site, it is recommended. Anyone viewing this web site with JavaScript disabled will not have the option to switch style themes, the ability to view the announcements in a scrolling marquee, or the convenience of drop down menus which provide quick links to nearly all the pages on this web site. Note: JavaScript and Java are not the same... Java is not required for any of the components on this web site.
Screen Resolution
Text appears larger on your monitor when using a screen resolution of 800 x 600 (or lower), but it also reduces the amount of content that can be fit on the screen, which in turn requires more scrolling to see all the page's contents. For this reason, the style themes were designed for a 1024 x 768 (or greater) screen resolution; they are also best viewed with a 16 bit (High Color, 1 million colors) color depth range (or greater). On a Windows based PC, these settings can be verified by right-clicking on the dektop, selecting Properties, and choosing the Display Properties tab (be sure to click OK when you're done). Note: The default style theme has been designed for a screen resolution of 800 x 600.
Cookies
Not all cookies are bad for you. If you have clicked on any of the style theme links then you have been given a cookie. The cookie is a tiny data file that we stored on your computer to remember your style theme preference; whenever a Woburn Public Schools page is opened, we look for this cookie that tells us which style theme you want displayed. We do not store any information other than your style theme preference.
The cookies that may leave a bad taste in your mouth are those used by some web sites which violate your privacy by storing personal information without your knowledge. Typically, this type of information is saved in a cookie so the web site can quickly identify you the next time you visit their website; but it is possible that this information can be retrieved by others. To be safe, it is good practice to delete any temporary internet files and cookies anytime after visiting a web site where you may have entered important personal information into any forms. Note: After deleting any temporary internet files/cookies, you will need to choose a Woburn Public Schools style theme preference again.
How to delete temporary internet files and cookies:
Microsoft Internet Explorer: Click on Tools, select Internet Options, click the Delete Files button and/or Delete Cookies, click OK.
Mozilla Firefox: Click on Tools, select Options, choose the Privacy button on the left, click the Clear All button (or just clear specific categories), click OK.

Miscellaneous Q & A
Q. How can I make a quick link to woburnpublicschools.com?
A. Open the web page you want to make a quick link to and press CTRL-D; this adds the page to your Favorites in Internet Explorer or adds the page to your Bookmarks in Firefox. Note: In Internet Explorer, a link can be added to your desktop by clicking File, selecting Send, and choosing Shortcut to Desktop.
Q. I get unexpected pop-ups all the time, how do I stop them?
A. We do not advertise at woburnpublicschools.com; the pop-up ads you are experiencing are most likely due to advertising software that may have been unknowingly installed on your computer and is running in the background. There are an endless array of applications that claim they can remove adware/spyware; but I highly recommend these trusted (free to download) adware/spyware removal applications: Ad-Aware SE Personal, Microsoft AntiSpyware, and Spybot Search and Destroy.
In addition to these applications, any computer connected to the internet today should have an up-to-date antivirus application running. If you don't have antivirus software installed on your computer, Avast! AntiVirus Home Edition is available to download for free.
